Better Programming

There is limited inmate programming and exercise space issues at the current jail. Specific issues include:

• 4th Floor exercise room is large but not on same floor as housing, limiting opportunity to use and requires movement of inmates

• Room isolation presents potential safety issues for jail staff

• Single room for many functions that potentially need their own space

• Limited camera surveillance creates safety and security problems

• No storage for equipment and program materials

• No offices for programming staff

 

Current Programs and Services:

• Hair care

• Faith-based services (has not resumed since COVID)

New Programs and Services With New Facility:

• Appropriate setting for hair care

• Faith-based services

• Substance abuse support group meetings (A.A. and N.A.)

• Mental health counseling

• OWI classes

• Domestic violence education

• Transitional services

• Expanded library

 

The proposed new jail will provide dedicated space for programs that offer assistance with rehabilitation, growth, and second chances. By investing in programming initiatives, we can empower individuals to make positive changes, rebuild their lives, and contribute to a safer and more inclusive society.
